The thing about positive habits is that their results aren’t immediately noticeable, but when done consistently, they compound over time. The more you do them, the more benefits you reap.

In Atomic Habits, James Clear also said, “Improving by 1% isn’t particularly notable; sometimes it isn’t even noticeable, but it can be far more meaningful — especially in the long run.”

He also said, “If you can get 1% better each day for one year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done.”

Another resonating highlight was when he said, “Success is the product of daily habits — not once-in-a-lifetime transformations. It’s the small things you do consistently that can have a big impact.”

So, for example, let’s say you start working out 3 times a week.

After a month, you’ll see some results.

But after 6 months, you’ll see even more dramatic results.

And after a year, you’ll be amazed at how much your body has changed — all because of a simple habit that you formed 1 day at a time.

Remember, the goal is to make it something that you can stick with long-term.

So, if your goal is to work out 3 times a week, don’t try to jump into it by working out every single day. That’s just setting yourself up for failure.

Instead, start by working out once or 2 a week and gradually increase the frequency as it becomes easier for you.

Another important tip is to pair your new habit with an existing habit that’s relative to the same routine and vibe.

For example, if you want to start flossing your teeth every night before bed, pair it with another nightly ritual like brushing your teeth or taking off your makeup.

That way, it’ll become second nature — you won’t have to switch environments — or really even think twice about it — you’ll just do it automatically.

Remember, baby steps.

For example, if your goal is to work out 3 times a week and your friend’s goal is also to work out 3 times a week — set up the same workout schedule and check in with each other (on all 3 workout days) and hold each other accountable if either one of you misses a workout.

This accountability support system will help keep both of you motivated and on track.

Make it fun.

Find a way to make your new positive habit enjoyable — something you look forward to.

If working out 3 times a week feels like a chore, find different ways to make it exciting by switching your workouts up.

For example, go to a pilates class for the first workout day, a dance class for the second workout day, and then do a light jog outside (with an inspiring view of nature) for the third workout day.
