If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for ways to be more organized and productive. You’ve probably tried a million different methods, from old-school paper planners to the latest productivity apps. But have you ever considered using a digital planner?

I’ll admit I was skeptical at first. I’ve always been a fan of paper planners because I like being able to write things down physically. But after doing some research and trying out a few different digital planners at the end of last year (2022), I was entirely sold!

Here are ten reasons why you should give digital planning a try.

But first.

What is digital planning?

Digital planning is essentially a digital version of traditional paper planners. They allow you to keep track of tasks, events, and notes in an organized way while accessing them on any device.

11 Benefits of Using a Digital Planner.

1. Portability: You Can Access Your Planner Anywhere.

One of the best things about using a digital planner is that you can access it anywhere. Whether at your desk or on the go, all you need is your phone or laptop, and you’re good to go.

No more searching around for random sticky notes or lugging around a bulky planner or notebook everywhere you go! And if you lose your phone or your computer crashes, don’t worry — your digital planner will be safely stored in the cloud.

2. Customizable: You Can Customize It to Fit Your Needs.

Every person is different, which means that not every planner will work for everyone. With a digital planner, you can customize it to fit your unique needs and preferences. Don’t like the way one of the preset pages looks? No problem — you can create your own custom pages from scratch. I sure did. Or, if you want to use someone else’s design, there are tons of digital planner templates available online.

You can create your own digital planner with sites like Canva, or you can purchase premade digital planners from sites like Etsy. They have millions. And most of them are irresistible.

3. Stay Organized: Keep Track of Any and All Tasks in One Place.

Digital planners are great for staying organized because they allow you to keep track of any and all tasks in one place. From work assignments to grocery lists

3. Adaptable & Flexible: You Can Use It for More Than Just Planning.

A digital planner can do more than just help you keep track of your to-do list. You can also use it for things like goal setting, habit tracking, and even journaling (my favorite).

The sky’s the limit. And if you ever get bored with one type of digital planner design, you can always switch to another without having to start from scratch.

For example, if you’re using a traditional digital planner page, you can easily switch to something that looks more like a bullet journal or to-do list — without losing any text or other information. It’s incredible.

4. Better Organization: You Can Stay Organized and on Track Easily.

With a digital planner, everything is in one place, so staying organized and on track is easy. No more flipping through pages or searching for misplaced sticky notes. Now you can search for pages in a user-friendly search box and wallah. You can even search for specific words to bring you to a section of your digital planner even faster.

Also, most digital planners have handy features like calendar views and streamlined task lists that make it even easier to stay on top of things.

5. Creativity: You Can Get Creative With It.

If you’re not into all the bells and whistles that come with some digital planners, don’t worry —you can still use a simple layout that fits your needs. But if you’re feeling creative, there are also plenty of options for customizing your planner to make it as pretty or as functional as you want.

Add cute stickers, change the colors, insert photos — the possibilities are endless.

6. Privacy: You Can Make It as Private or Public as You Want.

Whether you want to keep your planner completely private or share it with the world, there’s an option for you if you’re using a digital planner.

Tons of great planning apps and software programs offer public and private sharing options, so you can choose what works best for you.  For example, Goodnotes and Notability are two amazing programs for creating digital planners that offer different levels of privacy.

7. Affordability: You Don’t Have to Spend Much Money.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly planner, then digital planning is the way to go. Most digital planners out there are pretty reasonably priced for the value — especially on Etsy. And if that’s still not enough, you can even find free alternatives! That’s right — there are plenty of free digital planners out there. Canva has a ton, so you can easily get started without spending a penny.

8. Reusable: You Can Reuse Your Digital Planner Over and Over Again.

Yep, digital planners are reusable — which means you can use the same one over and over again without having to buy a new one every year or month. I like to use undated digital planners, so I can use them for multiple years without having to worry about the dates being off.

9.  Reduces Waste: You Don’t Have to Print Anything.

If you’re looking for a more eco-friendly way of planning, then digital planners are the way to go. Since all your planning is done on a device, printing anything out is unnecessary. That means less paper waste in landfills and more money saved!

10. Fun: You’ll Enjoy Digital Planning.

I used to look at people who used digital planners and digital journals with side eyes, but boy, was I wrong. Digital planning is so much fun! And honestly therapeutic.

I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out — using a digital planner is actually very enjoyable and has helped me dramatically on my journey to personal development.

Once you find a system that works for you and start reaping the benefits of being more organized and productive, you actually start to look forward to the next time you get to open your digital planner.

So give digital planning a try. I think you’ll find that it isn’t so cheesy after all.

How and Where to Use Your Digital Planner?

You can use your digital planner with a pdf importer app on a tablet that lets you use a stylus pen to write. I personally use an iPad with an app called Goodnotes. There’s also another app called Notability, but I love Goodnotes more because it looks more aesthetically pleasing and has more notebook and paper customization features.

However, it is more convenient that Notablity allows you to lock your planner with a password, as some information can be sensitive. Hopefully, Goodnotes will add the feature one day (for the journaling aspect of the planner).
